Shankar of the Chemical Engineering department of IIT Bombay, India.

In Nature water percolates through various layers of Soil and is accumulated as groundwater which is purified after several chemical, mechanical and biological reactions of the soil and its layers consuming very little or no energy in the processes.

Similarly, SBT i.e., Soil Biofilter Technology mimes that very process in a biologically engineered process of wastewater recycling. It believes & realizes the potential of Soil as a powerful and naturally superior sanitation medium which generates very little entropy and is a highly efficient process.  The technology is based on a biological conversion process where fundamental reactions of nature, namely soil respiration, photosynthesis & mineral weathering take place in a controlled media housing selected micro & micro organisms which bring about the desired purification. SBT is an oxygen supplying biological engine and so the process can treat all types of water – domestic, municipal & industrial.
